The business was founded in
1983 by Garry Bourne when he began making nets for koi keepers. The circular
net heads were formed in solid aluminium alloy with a shallow pan mesh and
screw fixed to tubular aluminium handles. The nets have been constantly
improved over the years and are now sold throughout the UK and exported to
Europe and most of the Koi keeping countries of the world, including Japan.
Over the years the demand for more products increased and the
business became Wholesale Aquatic Supplies to reflect these changes. Garry
applied his engineering background to his interest in filtration and designed
the product that he aptly named the "FilterTech" (Putting Technology in
Filtration). The Filtertech filter has vertically stacking media trays and a
patented settling and flow system. Since it was launched there have been many
minor improvements, each designed to make the filter more efficient and easier
to maintain.
A modern office and warehouse facility with high reach storage has
enabled the business to expand further, increasing the range of products
offered. In January 2005 the business was formed into Filtertech UK Limited to
increase the marketing of 'own brand' products. Central to this was the
launching of the Filtertech SHP, a high quality solids handling pump with an
Oase Aquamax motor made in Germany.
Filtertech now sell virtually everything but the fish and water and still specialise in equipment for koi pond construction. The Filtertech brand is associated with quality products designed for koi keepers and the range includes: The SHP pumps : the FilterTech filter : The BeadTech pressure bead filter : UK & Metric Tank/Liner connectors : Digital Thermostat : Electrical Switch Boxes.
